Frequently Asked Questions
A 2.5 TOG sleep sack is a wearable blanket rated for cool rooms. TOG measures thermal resistance, so the number tells you how much insulation the sack provides rather than how thick it looks. Two sacks of the same thickness can carry different ratings depending on what is inside them.
Kaiya Baby's 2.5 TOG sleep sacks have a GOTS-certified organic cotton shell and lining, with a fill of 30% camel wool and 70% SORONA® polyester. The sack is worn rather than draped over your baby, helping keep them covered as they move.
Kaiya Baby rates its 2.5 TOG sleep sacks for rooms at 61–68°F (16–20°C). For warmer rooms at 68–75°F (20–24°C), 1.0 TOG is the closer match. For cooler rooms at 57–61°F (14–16°C), consider 3.5 TOG.
Choose by the temperature in your baby's room rather than the season. A heated nursery may need a lighter rating even in winter. Our TOG guide compares the ratings for different room temperatures.
For Kaiya Baby's 2.5 TOG sleep sacks, start with a short-sleeve bodysuit at 64–68°F (18–20°C). At 61–63°F (16–17°C), choose a long-sleeve bodysuit or a long-sleeve romper, rather than both together.
These are starting points. Check your baby's chest or upper back rather than judging warmth by their hands and feet. If their chest feels hot or they are sweating, remove a layer and reassess. Our sleep sack layering guide explains the clothing options in more detail.
A correctly fitted 2.5 TOG sleep sack can be used instead of loose blankets when it suits the room temperature. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends placing babies on their backs on a firm, flat sleep surface, with no loose bedding.
Make sure the sleep sack fits securely around the neck and arm openings. Keep hats off indoors, and do not add a loose blanket over the sleep sack.
Choose by your baby's current height and weight rather than age alone, using the chart for your chosen style in our Size Guide. The neck and arm openings should fit securely enough that your baby cannot slide inside the sack, while allowing their arms to move freely.
If the next size is loose around the neck or arm openings, wait before using it for sleep. For a newborn, check both the product's minimum size requirements and whether the room temperature suits 2.5 TOG.
Choose the Basic Sleep Sack for a traditional closed-bottom shape. The Sleep Sack Walker has separate leg openings with feet out, while the Sleep Suit Sack 3-in-1 lets you switch between a sleep sack and a split-leg suit.
The choice is about the shape and features you want, not a different warmth rating. Check the available sizes for your chosen style before ordering.
